Thus far, in my life, I have been blessed with three daughters (two by marriage) and five granddaughters.
Also, thus far, in my life, I have been blessed with three sons (one by marriage) and two grandsons. I cherish them every bit as much as I do my daughters and granddaughters!
But, because this one is dedicated to that which I can relate to -
being a girl -
my attention/my focus, is turned toward them...
My oldest grandchild is a girl and she has been trying, wishing, willing, praying, hoping... to be older, since she could comprehend the concept...
I have always told her to...
slow down!
Life moves at an incredible pace!
I've told her to enjoy being a little girl/a kid, and all which that entails...
Until recently, her eyes would glaze over. I think she may have now advanced to the eye roll stage...
I am sure my reactions were very much the same, when I was once young!
We cannot appreciate just how fast, until we are older; with some life-living equity in our portfolio!
Evenso, and with all of that said - we get so caught up in our lives... the ups and the downs, the highs and the lows, and all of that in-between.
By the time the flying house lands, the script of our life has passed us by!
It's a flash!
We don't get it back!
My advice to my grandchildren, is the same as it was to my children. Don't wish so hard for the birthdays, enjoy the now moments!
Try all the sports, and/or instruments, and/or brushes/tools, etc., until you find the right fit for you.
After that, utilize your talent(s) to the very best of your ability!
Yes, have fun - again, that's the best part of being a kid.
But once you commit...
to a sport, for example, play for the win! Put in the time, and work to perform at your absolute best!
Do it for yourself, and not for anyone else!
At the same time do not hold yourself back - for anyone else!
I could so easily get political right about now - but I won't!
There's a song by Carrie Underwood that I recently came across.
The title of the song is, "Little Girl Don’t Grow Up Too Fast"
I suggest you find it, and give it a good listen!
I am in a very emotional phase of life right now, so I bawled through the song. Had to go back and take my own, "good listen".
It is about, all of the things, that I attempt to get across to these little girls.
Girlhood, womanhood, motherhood... Grandmotherhood; wow, how amazing the stages of this blessed life of mine!
I pray for every member of my family... to stay the course.
To keep God first, and to cherish family (and the special people that God has placed in their lives) and to cherish LIFE!
To never take any moment, or any loved one for granted... is a fought and won battle!
To the little girls out there wishing and hoping to be older...
to those feeling pressured to grow up too fast....
Slow down baby girl!
"Little girl, little girl, don't grow up too fast. 'Fore you know it - you'll be wishing you could just go back! Don't you know there'll be plenty of time for that. Somewhere down the road? Yeah, it's all gonna fly in the blink of an eye. You can't slow down this thing called life. So take your time and let it last. Little girl, don't grow up too fast."
