Did you hear the speech by the winner in the category, ‘Best Female Actress in a Leading Role’, Oscar night 2026?
The speech itself was a true gem, a winner!
I did hear it — and I appreciated it so much that I chose to share it.
I wasn’t the only one. It made its way through social media for a time...
It is the type of message that resonates — the type of message that I’d prefer to share
The type of message that should be shared!
It doesn’t tear down, but rather, builds up. It’s unpretentious, positive in nature; the type to lift spirits… and create smiles!
It’s non-political.
In fact, I have no idea this young woman’s politics… and it matters not!
If the point in her message is the only thing that she and I agree on — then it’s common ground. It’s something to rally around, and that’s a good thing!
The point/her message:
Girl meets boy, girl adores boy, they get married for life and have lots of babies!
Yes, that’s it!
A simple message, a forgotten era — a tale as old as time!
Today’s modern tales are too splintered and fragmented!
Here, a piece, representing some new offbeat idealistic cause, there, a part, depicting an injustice which doesn’t exist. In this corner, an unhealthy portion of entitlement mixed in with some because it feels good, thrown in for good measure, and then a pinch more — just because!
Old tales spun into new, to the point where the living of life, and life itself… becomes the splintered, the fragmented, and the broken!
In these tales, women cannot and must not be defined, (that’s where all the wiggle room is) Babies are to be seen as roadblocks/problems, and not the special blessings, they truly are! Men are to be portrayed as toxic - unless they’re working to soften their wiring! Relationship/marriage/family, seen as the competition… an obstacle to self-fufillment, a career path, etc.
The female actor, the Oscar recipient with the winning message, Jessie Buckley, didn’t come across as having given up anything in exchange!
She, and her husband, make their life together, work.
That was my takeaway!
She could have gone on endlessly about herself, or her gripes… as often happens with these award shows, but she didn’t.
She glowingly and lovingly shared what was on her heart… being a woman, loving a man, and cherishing her family!
It was refreshing to say the least!
We have gotten so caught up in labels and hidden meanings.
We play to the camera as if every stage of life is an actual stage. I don’t believe it’s any more than a very small percentage of the people stating the craziest stuff, who actually believe it themselves! They get caught up in it, or, sadly, in some cases, they crave controversy, as some crave a drug.
It’s as if we have become caricatures of ourselves, rather than the people God intended for us to be.
I am not exempt …
My caricature is a crusading street corner politician, up on a soapbox, pleading…
The message, “let’s only fix what is actually broken”, never gets through, only the rotten tomatoes thrown my direction!
It was never my intention to have any such image.
Far from it!
I have opinions which, oftentimes, go against the grain of these modern-day tales.
A Christian, conservative in nature, family-oriented, God-loving, America-loving. A lover of traditions and those things which make sense to me — those things which work!
A woman who has heard [more than her fair share] of put-downs, insults, and ugly names throughout my years of writing…
In spite of that, writing gives me great joy, and I hope to continue writing about those things which I care about.
Those things which touch my heart, and bring me to full attention, especially when it comes to my grandchildren, and their future.
My grandchildren knowing that I did speak up and speak out, when it deemed to be necessary, is my award!
I’ll not let others dictate (via ugly names and suggestions) when it’s time to put down my pen… step off, if you will! I will know.
Until then, not looking for accolades, just for the continued freedoms this great Nation has always afforded, be extended to future generations.
Knowing full well that those freedoms are fleeting, and that not all value time-honored traditions nor the tales as old as time.....
